Media Theories For The Hunger Games

Image
The Hunger Games Catching Fire  Todorov:Equilibrium  Applying the Todorov theory of equilibrium, which states there are 3 main parts to a movie, the equilibrium(start of the movie) can be seen as everything is all good and normal as a life of a champion(wining the previous hunger games)The disequilibrium(the middle of the movie) is war breaking out in the districts while the characters have to go back to have the fight. The new equilibrium isn't shown in the trailer due to not wanting to tell the whole story even though previous readers of the hunger games would know how it will end but would still enjoy seeing it only from the movie.  Propp:Character The Propp characters theory can also be applied to the hunger games trailer. Propps theory on character suggests there are only a certain number/type of characters in most movies. The protagonist (hero) in the movie seems to be Katniss due to the fact that she is the stronger character on a mission to win the hunger g

Hunger Games Representation

Image
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire The white female (Katniss) is presented as a strong, independent, determined and caring person who is ready to put others needs ahead of her own, making her fairly selfless. This is probably to contradict the traditional female roles in order to appeal to young females who disagree with the previous stereotype of females and present the current changing society consisting of stronger female individuals. Young white men are presented as slightly weak, vulnerable and emotional in order subvert typical roles to apply to the younger males that can't identify themselves with the stronger male characters. The stronger female role may also be inspired females to develop a stronger persona. The people in power and the political hierarchy are presented as thrill seeking, manipulative, unwilling to show a regard for the welfare of the poor and show a fairly negative aura. This is most likely to show how the general public may view people in power

Film Posters And Trailers - Frozen

Image
Film Po ster Key concepts and themes of the movie are displayed in both the trailer and poster. The scenery of ice is constantly shown in both ways of marketing. The theme of ice is in synergy with the title "frozen". The way the word frozen is written in novelty font seems to look like it is carved by ice yet remaining magical, like Disney, at the same time. The fact that reindeer is running in the poster suggests that the movie is mainly fast pased. This is likely to attract a young audience as too much meaning and over compicating a movie is unappeling to a young audience. There are two girls but also 3 male characters, this mix of genre on the poster suggests a less girly movie, which is somewhat largerly what disney is about. The gender mix helps to appel to a male audience who want to see fast adverntourous stories.(the trialer suggests a fast story). The main character is shown on the left side of the poster. The way she is looking at the camera sugges
