Film Institutions: Frozen case study

Disney's Frozen

The film that I have chosen is Disney's Frozen.
The reason I wanted to do Frozen was because it had an organisation like Disney behind it, a huge release and was really talked about.

Institutional background

The production companies behind frozen were Walt Disney Animation Studios
Walt Disney Pictures.

The Distributor of the film, in the UK, was Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Brand loyalty
The film's genre is an animated fantasy-comedy.You can tell the film fits into this genre by the trailer. In the trailer we can see a funny animated character, odd stunts, large open spaces and adventure. Few of the main features in an animated codedy film.
In the trailler We see jokes, different yet funny characters, unrelistic character (the snowman) and the life tretining experience.
The movie is an orginial but because of the fact that it is a diseny film it is most likely to have a large audience that will watch the film no matter what just because its a diesney film- Brand loyalty. The movie was also based on the book called snow queen so had a set audience already wanting to see what diseny was with the book.

It’s all a matter of timing
The film was released on Thanksgiving 2013. The theme of the movie was family and togetherness which fit properly into this time period. Moreover winter was coming so the winter theme was also on spot. More people came to watch it because it was a family film ready to enjoy on a special occasion geetting into the feel of the coming season.

The trailer first appered in June , a whole 6 months pre-realse. This got everyone ready for the film and raised the awarness of the movie to ensure that people come to watch it.
In Early November the song "let it go" was released to raise even more awarness of the movie a few days/weeks before the movie. The song became very popular so it did cause a lot more interest in the movie.

It’s a social thing
The word-of-mouth was very strong for this movie
Frozen seemed to have a mixed reaction by the public. The people who loved it went on to post and make referecences to in at nearly every social networking site and the people who didnt like it didnt seem to expres it alot.Due to this the movie seemed to have a quiet posstive word of mouth for it.
Three quotes from user reviews
"Visually, Frozen is perfect. Absolutely perfect."

"The worst part of the movie was the plot twist, which was not only unnecessary, but extremely cynical."

"I did enjoy the film but though it had some plot problems."

From these we can see that Diseny caused high expectations of its movie and maybe didnt meet all its standereds but nevertheless people still loved the animation and characters.
